KCRW to end Hanukkah show

Share

After 28 years, KCRW-FM (89.9) General Manager Ruth Seymour is bringing her annual Hanukkah special, “Philosophers, Fiddlers and Fools,” to a close. The final broadcast will be Friday from noon to 3 p.m.

Conceived as a tribute to the Yiddish culture and language that her parents brought with them to America from Eastern Europe, Seymour hosted the shows and chose the music and stories to play. The final installment, which she is dedicating to the late Andre Schwartz-Bart, a Holocaust survivor who wrote “The Last of the Just,” will feature highlights of past shows and a new documentary on musician Andy Statman.

“There is a moment when you know that it’s time to close up shop,” Seymour explained in an article for KCRW’s monthly station guide. “The Internet has meant that the program is no longer ephemeral, as originally intended. It exists online and is available on our website.”
