Williams and Redick Strike Back for Duke

Shelden Williams dominated inside, and J.J. Redick handled the perimeter at College Park, Md.

Together, the Duke seniors shot down any chance Maryland had of extending its run of success against the second-ranked Blue Devils.

Williams had 26 points and 13 rebounds, Redick scored 35 points for the second straight game, and the Blue Devils never trailed in a 96-88 victory on Saturday.

The Blue Devils, 23-1 overall, 11-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, were swept by the Terrapins (15-8, 5-5) last season and had lost three of their last four at Maryland.

No. 1 Connecticut 99, Seton Hall 57 -- The victory for the Huskies (22-1, 9-1) at East Rutherford, N.J., -- their 11th in a row -- was their most-lopsided Big East Conference win ever. Connecticut’s previous largest margin in a Big East game was an 86-49 win over Boston College on Feb. 11, 1989. Seton Hall (15-7, 6-4) had its six-game winning streak end.

No. 3 Memphis 91, Marshall 81 -- The visiting Tigers (22-2, 8-0) used a 17-0 run to overcome an 11-point deficit to get past the Thundering Herd (9-13, 2-7) in a Conference USA game for their 11th win in a row.

No. 4 Villanova 61, DePaul 51 -- Randy Fowe made two baskets during a late six-point run that increased the lead to 52-40 in a Big East game, helping the Wildcats (19-2, 9-1) win their eighth in a row. The Blue Demons (9-13, 2-9) have lost eight of nine.

No. 6 Texas 78, Nebraska 59 -- The Longhorns (21-3, 9-1) maintained sole possession of first place in the Big 12 Conference by beating the Cornhuskers (15-8, 5-5) at Austin, Texas.

Nebraska held P.J. Tucker, Texas’ top scorer, to six points. He was scoreless in the first half and was in foul trouble for much of the second half.

No. 7 Florida 71, Louisiana State 62 -- The Tigers (16-7, 8-2) went on a 12-0 run to take a 51-45 lead at Gainesville, Fla., but the Gators (21-3, 7-3) had a 16-3 run to take control in a Southeastern Conference game.

LSU had two chances to get close late, but Darrell Mitchell’s layup attempt was blocked by Joakim Noah, and seconds later, Tasmin Mitchell’s shot was blocked by Al Horford.

No. 11 Tennessee 83, Georgia 78 -- Chris Lofton set career highs for three-point baskets and points for the second game in a row to help the Volunteers (18-3, 9-1) hold off the Bulldogs (14-9, 4-6) in an SEC game at Athens, Ga.

Lofton made nine three-pointers and scored 33 points as the Volunteers won their seventh in a row. Lofton’s eighth three-pointer pushed the lead to 71-65 with 3:14 left.

Minnesota 69, No. 12 Michigan State 55 -- The Golden Gophers (12-9, 3-7) outscored the Spartans, 22-6, over the last 6 1/2 minutes to win the Big Ten Conference game at Minneapolis. The Spartans (18-6, 6-4) went six minutes without a basket down the stretch.

No. 17 Boston College 67, Clemson 61 -- Jared Dudley scored five points during the last 1:16 to lead the Eagles (19-5, 7-4) past the Tigers (14-10, 3-7) in an ACC game at Boston. The Eagles have won eight of their last nine games. Clemson has lost seven of eight.

No. 18 Iowa 70, No. 24 Indiana 67 -- The Hawkeyes (19-6, 8-3) ended the Hoosiers’ 13-game Big Ten home winning streak at Bloomington, Ind. It was the sixth loss in nine games for Indiana (13-8, 5-5), which did not have Coach Mike Davis on the bench as he stayed home because of illness.

No. 20 Oklahoma 80, Baylor 52 -- A scoreboard malfunction listed the score as 198-0 within the first two minutes of the Big 12 game at Norman, Okla., a sign of the blowout to come in the Sooners’ 24th consecutive win over the Bears (2-8, 2-8).

Kevin Bookout scored six straight points and Michael Neal followed with consecutive three-point baskets as the Sooners (16-5, 7-3) extended their lead to 50-19 in the opening minutes of the second half.

Purdue 84, No. 22 Michigan 70 -- The Boilermakers (9-14, 3-9) trailed only once after the opening basket and the Wolverines (16-6, 6-5) trailed, 47-27, at halftime in the Big Ten game at West Lafayette, Ind.

Michigan cut the deficit to 17 by scoring the first three points of the second half, but Purdue increased the lead to 63-37.

Missouri State 66, No. 25 Northern Iowa 63 -- The Bears (16-7, 9-6) didn’t trail in the second half -- but almost let it get away in a Missouri Valley Conference game at Cedar Falls, Iowa. John Little made a three-pointer with 1:05 left to pull the Panthers (21-5, 11-4) to within 64-61.

The Bears’ Tyler Chaney missed a layup with 29 seconds left, but Grant Stout’s rebound was called a jump ball. The Bears retained possession, but Kellen Easley threw the ball away. Ben Jacobson made two free throws with 22 seconds left to make it 64-63.

OTHER GAMES

Joseph Jones made a jump shot with 1.1 seconds left to lift Texas A&M; (15-7, 5-6) to a 46-44 Big 12 win over Oklahoma State (13-11, 3-7), which played without Coach Eddie Sutton, who was released from a Stillwater, Okla., hospital less than 24 hours after being injured in a car accident.... Louisville (16-8, 4-7) held visiting South Florida (6-17, 0-10) without a basket over the final nine minutes in a 57-54 Big East victory.
