High Interest in Pick Six

Share

In terms of quality, there is nothing special about today’s card at Hollywood Park.

Five of the eight races are claimers and two of the other three are for maidens.

Still, thousands of bettors, locally and around the country, will be paying close attention to what happens in Inglewood.

The reason is a two-day, pick six carry-over of $616,240, produced by a rash of longshots over the weekend.

The pick six begins in the third, a $27,000 starter allowance at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. Players will be trying to find a winner among six horses who have combined for six victories in 62 starts.

The most consistent of the bunch is Where’s My Halo. Winless in seven starts since coming to California after breaking his maiden in his debut Aug. 7 at Calder, the 3-year-old Hunting Hard colt has been second in four consecutive outings for Joy Ride Racing and trainer John Sadler.

Where’s My Halo will have a new rider today. Apprentice Martin Garcia, a recent arrival in Southern California after winning the riding title at Golden Gate Fields, will replace Juan Ochoa on the Florida bred.

The third race is the first of three turf contests in the pick six.

Race of the day: Generosity, who was last seen breaking her maiden at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky., on Dec. 14, will make her first start for trainer Bruce Levine in the eighth at Belmont Park. Eibar Coa will ride the 4-year-old Unbridled’s Song filly for owner-breeder Peter Blum in the $46,000 allowance at one mile. The race is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $59,224.

One for the road: Noble Masterpiece was re-claimed by trainer Art Sherman for owner Bob Bone and can score in his return to Bay Meadows in the seventh race today, a $34,500 optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles. Dennis Carr will ride the 7-year-old Regal Classic horse, who has won three times over the Bay Meadows turf course.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Awesome Silence and Excessively N Love in the second, Blind Harry, Casual Thunder and Where’s My Halo in the third and Swiss Arrow in the fourth.

Winners: (previous day/meet total): 2/49. Money: (previous day/meet total): $14.40/$317.20. Total money bet: $368.
