She’s a world traveler who knows how to make L.A. her vacation

IT’S been 25 years since the Go-Go’s got going, and L.A.’s own sirens of sun-drenched summer hits, such as “Vacation” and “We Got the Beat,” are marking the milestone with a world tour that will eventually bring them home for a Greek Theatre date July 14.

For the last 14 years, however, home for lead singer Belinda Carlisle has been in the South of France, where she shares a chateau with husband Morgan Mason and their son, James Duke. In September, Carlisle will even be releasing a French-language CD, “Voila.” But don’t think she’s forgotten how to have fun in the South of California.

Soak city

I actually have a routine for my trips to L.A. that works really well: I take a flight that gets me in about 3 p.m. and I go straight to the Beverly Hills Hotel. Then I’ll unpack, jump into my rental car and go right to Beverly Hot Springs in Koreatown. I usually feel sort of crummy when I get off the plane, kind of cross-eyed with fatigue, but that place works wonders, and the water is magical -- I think it’s the only spa in town with natural springs.

I sort of wade around in the various pools for a half-hour, then I have a service called Body Care, which is a complete exfoliation. The last time I did this it was with a couple of bandmates, Jane Wiedlin and Gina Schock, and after our girls’ night outing at the hot springs, we didn’t want to go anywhere else. So we just stopped at Trader Joe’s to pick up some things to eat, like salads, cheeses, olives and iced tea, and then took it over to Jane’s and ate and chatted the rest of the night.

Tees and tea

On Saturday morning I like to get a golf lesson over at the Bel-Air Country Club. I love the course and just the whole vibe there. I’ve been playing for a couple of years, and my goal is to be ready for the celebrity pro-ams. After golf, I’ll go back to the hotel for breakfast, downstairs in the coffee shop, which is pretty groovy. I love the omelets and huevos rancheros. I’d eat there even if I wasn’t staying there.

Then I’d do some shopping, because I think L.A. is the best place in the world for that. I’d go to my friend’s fabulous shop in Santa Monica, Flair at Fred Segal, but on the way I’d stop at the shoe department at Neiman Marcus.

After that I’d go to the Border Grill for some guacamole and chips, and maybe fish tacos. After I’ve been back in France for a while, I start really craving L.A.’s Mexican food. Nothing else is like it. In the evening, I’d go with a friend to the Hamburger Hamlet on Sunset and Doheny. It’s my favorite restaurant. I’d get a big veggie burger, fries and chocolate cake. Then maybe back to the Polo Lounge, where my friends can drink while I sip my chamomile tea.

Ending with an om

On Sunday morning, I might go visit my parents, who now live in Tehachapi, but that’s an all-day trip. If not, I’d go hiking in Runyon Canyon and then come back to the hotel with friends and stay in a cabana by the pool, just eating and gossiping. In the evening, I’d go to Golden Bridge Yoga in Hollywood for a kundalini class with Gurmukh, and they serve hot food afterward. It’s a wonderful way to close the weekend.
