A proper Police lineup

THE Police’s reunion tour is shaping up as the highest-grossing tour of 2007. With nearly four dozen shows across North America, the trio is pulling in capacity crowds, grossing more than $26 million and selling about 226,000 tickets at just the first eight concerts, Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni said Thursday.

The group’s Staples Center date Wednesday was no exception. Preliminary figures put it among the biggest crowds ever at the arena. In its three Southland dates -- also including a performance that was scheduled Thursday at Honda Center in Anaheim, and Saturday’s wrap-up at Dodger Stadium -- Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland will have played to about 100,000 fans.
