SALT LAKE CITY -- Alecko Eskandarian scored in the 72nd minute to give Chivas USA a 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night before a regular-season-record crowd of 26,391 in the final game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Real defender Nat Borchers collided with goalie Nick Rimando as the ball rolled by to the waiting Eskandarian, who knocked it in for his third goal in only five appearances after missing much of the season because of a groin injury.

Chivas (9-10-6) improved to 3-7-3 on the road and passed Salt Lake for second place in the Western Conference. Salt Lake (8-10-7) dropped to 7-1-5 at home and has only one win in its last 10 games against Chivas.

The closest call for Chivas’ defense came in the 44th minute of the game, when goalkeeper Dan Kennedy stopped Yura Movsisyan’s point-blank volley.

Chivas defender Jonathan Bornstein left the match at halftime because of an undisclosed head injury.
