Santa Monica luxe for less
Partake in the “staycation” trend this season by booking a room in Santa Monica’s Hotel Shangri-La, whose $30-million renovation makes it look simultaneously nostalgic and modern.
The deal: The boutique property, built in 1939, is offering introductory rates when it returns next month: $265 for a deluxe ocean-view room (usually $450); $345 for a one-bedroom ocean-view suite (normally $650). The dates for the stay are Oct. 20 to Dec. 31, except Nov. 5 to 12.
