Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl whose body was found about 2:50 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of W. 93rd Street in the unincorporated Athens area near the Harbor Freeway.

The girl’s name could not be confirmed, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Pena. Earlier in the day, City News Service reported that a sheriff’s deputy identified her as Jasmine Granados.

Sheriff’s officials did not provide details about the circumstances of the girl’s death.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said it responded to the location about 2:54 a.m. but did not release further details. An autopsy is planned.
