Scent of a lad

Share

A guy’s spring wardrobe switch isn’t just about swapping out sweaters for swim trunks, it’s also a chance to jettison the winter-weight fragrances for the lighter scents of summer. And this season, some of the biggest names in men’s clothing are rolling out new entries -- so even if the recession has kept their clothes out of your closet this season, you can still maintain an air of luxury.

Packaged in smoky gray glass, pitched by eternally youthful model/actors and priced at just over $50, the offerings have an almost eerie similarity. Here’s how to suss out the subtle differences at the fragrance counter:

Burberry the Beat for Men

The faces: British model-musician Will Cameron, Brit actor Alex Pettyfer (among others)

The bottle: Smoky glass and gray metal with Burberry check design and Aqua Velva-colored contents equals a retro-Thermos vibe

The reality: Like a gangly British club kid, it’s got more energy, spice and depth than the pallor suggests -- and it grows on you.
