Events happening Tuesday
POP MUSIC
Tame Impala The Australian band seems to have been preserved in amber from an era when joints were rolled atop quintuple-gatefold psychedelic LPs. But enough time has elapsed — and members play with such insistent joy — that the group’s debut, “Innerspeaker,” feels fresh again. Echoplex, 1154 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles. 8:30 p.m. $15. (213) 413-8200.
Gift Horse Project The arts group puts on a final concert of the year to support the non-profit organization Art of Elysium, an evening that features Emily Kokal (Warpaint), Cameron McGill (Cameron McGill & What Army), Joe Sumner (Fiction Plane), Leslie Stevens (Leslie and the Badgers), Rain Phoenix (papercranes), the GHP band, plus more special guests. Largo at the Coronet. 366 N. La Cienega Blvd. 7:30 p.m. $35. (310) 855-0350. https://www.gifthorseproject.com.
BOOKS
Bam! Pow! Zap! Paul Levitz, author of the new book “75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking,” joins a panel discussion with DC executives Jim Lee and Geoff Johns on the history, characters and future of the company behind such iconic heroes as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. Comedian Patton Oswalt moderates. Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 7 p.m. Free. (310) 443-7000. hammer.ucla.edu.
Tanya Wright The actress behind the quietly excellent Deputy Kenya Jones on “True Blood” will read and sign from her new book, “Butterfly Rising.” Don’t expect tales of Deep South vampirism, though — this is a novel about friends in peril and an unlikely road trip. Eso Won Books, 4331 Degan Blvd. L.A. 7 p.m. https://www.esowonbookstore.com.
