Francesco Vezzoli, the uber-hip Italian artist whose conceptual creations tend to have a high celebrity quotient, will present a new exhibition that’s set to stop at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles later this year.

“Cinema Vezzoli” is scheduled to arrive at MOCA in late fall, according to the artist’s representatives.

[Updated]: However, a spokeswoman for MOCA said the exhibition would open at the museum in 2014. No specific dates have been announced for the show.

The exhibition, to be organized by senior MOCA curator Alma Ruiz, will use classic European film and Hollywood iconography to recount “the modern-day obsession with fame, politics and the public ostentation of private lives,” according to a release sent Wednesday.

TIMELINE: MOCA in flux

Vezzoli previously came to MOCA in 2009 to help oversee the museum’s 30th anniversary gala celebration, during which he appeared alongside Lady Gaga.

The Italian artist also is mounting separate exhibitions this year at Rome’s MAAXI museum and New York’s Museum of Modern Art. In Rome, he is presenting “Galleria Vezzoli,” a retrospective of his work that opened this week.

In the fall, he is scheduled present “The Church of Vezzoli,” a large-scale installation featuring a deconsecrated church from 19th century Italy that will be reconstructed at MoMA’s P.S.1 venue.
