Following in the footsteps of Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris, and that gaggle of reality TV hosts — Remember that? That was the absolute worst — Jimmy Kimmel emcees the “64th Primetime Emmy Awards,” saluting TV’s best. (ABC, 5 p.m.)

MONDAY

Tired of seeing “The L.A. Complex” in this space? Good news. The low-rated show-biz soap wraps its second season, with no word on a third. But if it does return, we’ll start plugging it all over again until someone besides us is watching. (KTLA, 8 and 9 p.m.)

TUESDAY

Zooey Deschanel is back as the not-so “New Girl,” followed by the new sitcom “Ben and Kate,” another new “New Girl,” then the debut of “The Office’s” Mindy Kaling in her aptly titled new project, “The Mindy Project.” (Fox, 8, 8:30, 9 and 9:30 p.m.)

If you’ve ever come home from the hospital or doctor’s office feeling like you just underwent a radical wallet-ectomy, the new documentary “Money and Medicine” attempts to explain the whys and wherefores of rising healthcare costs. (KOCE, 8 p.m.)

WEDNESDAY

Forever branded as the show for which the Peacock network chose to interrupt its coverage of the London Olympics’ closing ceremonies, the vet-com “Animal Practice” makes its actual debut. Justin Kirk and a trained monkey star. (NBC, 8 p.m.)

A long time ago in a toy chest far, far away … “LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out,” the latest installment of George Lucas’ space saga as reimagined for the construction-set set. And still most definitely not for kids, it’s the return of the animated series “South Park.” (Cartoon Network, 8 p.m.; Comedy Central, 10 p.m.)

THURSDAY

Visit the “Last Resort.” They’ve got tropical breezes, drinks with the little umbrellas… and their very own nuclear-armed Navy submarine. Andre Braugher captains the renegade crew in this new action drama from “The Shield’s” Shawn Ryan. (ABC, 8 p.m.)

FRIDAY

There’s Peter and Astrid (Joshua Jackson and Jasika Nicole, above), and Walter (John Noble) is around somewhere. But where’s Olivia (Anna Torv)? That’s the big mystery when the sci-fi drama “Fringe” returns for its fifth and final season. (Fox, 9 p.m.)

SATURDAY

Take 1987’s “Adventures in Babysitting,” replace the lovely and talented Elisabeth Shue with the, um, talented Jonah Hill, ratchet up the raunch, and there you have the hit-and-miss 2011 comedy “The Sitter.” Sam Rockwell also stars. (HBO, 8 p.m.)
