NBC orders more episodes of Dick Wolf’s ‘Chicago Med’
NBC has decided to take a chance on this Dick Wolf fellow after all.
The network announced Friday that it ordered an additional five episodes of “Chicago Med,” the third leg of Dick Wolf’s Chicago triad, bringing the episode total for the first season of the series to 18.
“Chicago Med” revolves around the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center emergency room as they treat incoming patients and interact with characters from Dick Wolf’s other shows. The series stars Oliver Platt, as well as “Law and Order” alum S. Epatha Merkerson.
While critics may have been lukewarm on “Med” at its debut, it’s proved to be a solid performer for NBC, averaging 8.9 million viewers overall in “live plus same day” numbers, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The “Chicago Med” episode order proves that the Dick Wolf brand continues to be strong within NBC, coming just weeks after the network renewed “Chicago P.D.” for a fourth and “Chicago Fire” for a fifth season, respectively.
“Chicago Med” airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on NBC.
