Target’s holiday collaboration with Neiman Marcus seemed to leave shoppers cold, and Time magazine reports that critics blame prices that were too high for budget-minded Target customers -- consider a Marc Jacobs scarf that started at $69 (it’s now slashed to $20) and a Prabul Gurung cape ($79.99, now $23.99) -- along with merchandise that was deemed to be unexciting. A new law in Israel bans advertisers from using models who are underweight, which the law defines as having a body mass index of 18.5 or less. (For a model who is 5-foot-8, any weight under 119 pounds would be forbidden.) The measure also requires publications to disclose when they use altered images to make models appear thinner than they really are. [Wall Street Journal]

Olympic figure skater and fashion envelope-pusher Johnny Weir plans to sell some of his personal wardrobe at auction on shoplindasstuff.com, starting Monday. Clothing and accessories from Chanel, Versace, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Balenciaga are to be included, and proceeds are earmarked for The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization focused on suicide prevention among sexually conflicted young people.
