Reader photo: Just reading her newspaper

Since this is a “So Cal Moments” entry, you might guess that this picture was taken in downtown L.A.’s Chinatown. And you’d be right.

But what’s fun about this photo is that it’s easy to imagine this scene taking place in any of the dozens of other Chinatowns across the country; and if not for the prices of the vendor’s wares being marked with dollar signs, it could even have been in another country -- even China itself.

Additionally, it’s easy to let your imagination convince you that this is a photograph taken 10, 20 or even 30 or more years ago.

It was actually taken April 20 by Harry Datu, using a Fujifilm X10. Datu says he took it while he “was doing some street photography with a buddy” downtown.
