Bon Appetit Grub Crawl, Mast Brothers Chocolate book signing, ‘Modern Filipino Dinner’

Bon Appétit will host a day and night Grub Crawl on Saturday in Venice Beach and downtown L.A. The on-the-move restaurant tours are meant to give participants a taste of each city. The daytime crawl will take place from noon to 5 p.m. along Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Participating restaurants include Salt Air (for a kickoff event), the Brig, Barnyard, 3 Square Bakery and Cafe and Local 1205/the Otherroom. The evening tour will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. and include a kickoff event at Perch; a taste at Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurant in America 2013, Alma; Josef Centeno’s Orsa & Winston and Bar Ama; and Broadway Bar. Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market will host a book signing for the new Mast Brothers Chocolate cookbook, “Mast Brothers Chocolate: A Family Cookbook,” on Sunday. Brothers Rick and Michael Mast will be available for a chocolate tasting and book signing from 1 to 2 p.m. at the store’s Beverly Hills location. To commemorate Filipino American History Month, marketing and event planning agency Culinary Escort will collaborate with Chef Andrew Guerrero for a modern Filipino-inspired dinner Oct. 29 at Maximiliano in Highland Park. The event is limited to 40 seats. Guerrero will prepare his take on Filipino favorites with the following dishes: kinilaw with vinegar-marinated yellowtail, calamansi and crispy rice cake; lumpiang Shanghai with pork and shrimp; guinataan with kabocha squash and shrimp stew; chicken adobo; lechon “porchetta style” with liver sauce; and ube flan made with purple yam and young coconut panna cotta. Tickets for the six-course meal are $75 and include tax and gratuity. Optional wine pairing is available for an additional $20.
