Bones of flood victim, 72, are found in Central California

Authorities confirm that bones found near a Central California reservoir are those of a 72-year-old woman who vanished during massive flooding three months ago.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that dental records have confirmed the remains are those of Carol Brown of Catheys Valley.

Brown left her home in the rural area on March 22 to check on horses during heavy rain and flooding.

Her side-by-side utility vehicle was found on its side in a small creek that had become a fast-moving river up to 10 feet deep.

A search team using cadaver dogs found Brown’s skeletal remains Saturday near the Bear Reservoir, about 9 miles downstream from where she vanished.
