Man caught after jumping from moving stolen Porsche during chase
A suspect who led authorities on a chase in a stolen Porsche Cayenne at speeds of more than 100 mph was captured Friday in West Los Angeles after he jumped from the rolling vehicle and ran.
The man began the chase after officers from the LAPD’s Topanga division spotted the stolen SUV about 11:20 a.m. and attempted to stop it, said Richard French, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
The pursuit headed south on the 405 Freeway with the suspect reaching more than 100 mph while weaving in and out of fast-flowing traffic.
During the chase, the vehicle briefly made contact with an uninvolved vehicle and then seemingly blew a front left tire.
The driver then began to exit the freeway in West Los Angeles and as the SUV rolled down a ramp, he jumped from the moving vehicle.
He narrowly missed being hit by the Porsche’s rear wheel and oncoming police cars. He bolted down a hillside and into a tree-lined neighborhood with California Highway Patrol officers in foot pursuit.
Once there, he vaulted several walls before reaching an enclosed backyard, where a man was painting.
The suspect dressed in red pants stood on the porch before he entered the house on Butler Avenue. The man tried to change his clothing to hide from police, but people at the house quickly identified him.
