Santa Ana pair found dead had been together 25 years; police find note

This post has been corrected. See note below for details.

A man and woman found dead with gunshot wounds inside their condominium were identified Thursday as an older couple who had lived together for 25 years.

Police said they found what appears to be a suicide note in the couple's Santa Ana residence and that officers recovered a weapon they believe was used in the apparent murder-suicide.

The two were identified as Freda Bryson, 78, and Michael Worden, 71. Officers said the bodies were found in a bedroom.

Police were called to the 2100 block of East Wellington Avenue around 6 p.m. Wednesday after being asked to make a welfare check by a worried relative, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

The officers gained access to the condo, where they found the two inside a bedroom with gunshot wounds, he said. Detectives said they believe the man shot the woman.

Fire personnel responded and pronounced both the man and the woman dead at the scene.

“They believe this was an isolated incident,” Bertagna said.

[For The Record 4:29 p.m. April 3: An earlier version of this post said the couple left behind an apparent suicide note. Police said only that they found an apparent suicide note.]
