Briefs: Volleyball tourney comes Saturday

The Christmas Four-Person Volleyball Tournament will be played Saturday at Main Beach in Laguna Beach.

The annual tournament is a four-person weighted draw and will include a potluck and toy drive. Competition will be held in two divisions, Open and Social, and mixed gender teams are included. Players can sign up individually (teams will be assigned), and are encouraged to bring a dish/drink for the potluck lunch.

U.S. teams return to O.C.

The USA Water Polo Women’s and Men’s Senior National Teams will end the year with matches against international competition starting next week.

The USA Women’s Senior National Team, which includes sisters Makenzie and Aria Fischer of Laguna Beach, will take on the Netherlands at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mira Costa High in Manhattan Beach. Team USA defeated the Netherlands in the World Championship final .

The Women’s National Team also will be joined by the Netherlands, Italy and Spain for the Holiday Cup which starts Tuesday and runs through Dec. 20 at Corona del Mar High.

The USA Men’s Senior National Team will play Croatia in a two-game series. The teams will meet at 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at Corona del Mar High, and at 3 p.m. Dec. 20 at USC.

Tuesday: Spain vs. Netherlands, 6 p.m.; USA vs. Italy, 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Spain vs. Italy, 6 p.m.: USA vs. Netherlands, 7:30 p.m.

Thursday: Italy vs. Netherlands, 5 p.m.; USA vs. Spain, 6:30 p.m.; USA Men vs. Croatia, 8 p.m.

Dec. 18 (free admission): Spain vs. Netherlands, 3 p.m.; USA vs. Italy, 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 19: Spain vs. Italy, noon; USA vs. Netherlands, 1:30 p.m.
