Football: Big games for Grant Kraemer, Daniel Khan, Lucas Alfonso

Share

Grant Kraemer passed for 228 yards and two touchdowns, Daniel Khan caught six passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Lucas Alfonso maded field goals from 50 and 49 yards to lift Sherman Oaks Notre Dame past Del Oro, 41-24, on Saturday at Oceanside High.

Notre Dame opened a 34-3 lead in the third quarter, then seemed to lose interest. A leg injury to Del Oro running back Tevon Rhyne seemed to half the Knights’ momentum. Del Oro closed to 34-24 before Koa Farmer scored his second touchdown on an eight-yard run.

Sacks by Cameron Page and Brody Lluis in the fourth quarter put a stop to any Del Oro comeback.

Kraemer, a senior in his first year playing quarterback on varsity, completed 12 of 23 passes. He also rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown. Khan caught touchdown passes of 56 and 45 yards.

Notre Dame’s defense picked up four personal-foul penalties, three for face masks.

“We played pretty well in the first half and were doing things well on both sides of the ball,” Coach Kevin Rooney said.

The heat and the injury didn’t help the Knights in the second half. Next up for Notre Dame (2-0) is a showdown game at Gardena Serra (2-0) on Friday.

“They’re a great team,” Rooney said. “We’re a good team. It should be a great game.”
