Football: UCLA’s John Savage could be getting into debate with players over Servite

Share

Servite linebacker Jack Savage is the son of UCLA baseball Coach John Savage, who has several players on his national championship roster who graduated from high schools that don’t like losing to Servite in football. The friendly wagers could be quite entertaining this season between coach and players.

Sidearm-throwing relief pitcher David Berg (Bishop Amat) could bet Savage that if the Lancers beat Servite, he will get to start one game. And if Servite beats Bishop Amat, Berg would have to throw overhand for one game.

Outfielder Ty Moore (Mater Dei) could bet Savage if Mater Dei defeats Servite, he’ll be allowed to come in and be a relief pitcher for one game. And if Servite beats Mater Dei, he’ll have to hit right-handed.

Outfielder Eric Filia (Edison) is on the spot this week. Servite plays Edison on Thursday at Orange Coast College. He should insist if Edison wins, he gets to be UCLA’s leadoff hitter. If Servite wins, he’ll be required to take at least two pitches before swinging.
