Nike Extravaganza: Sedrick Barefield, Deontae North lead Corona Centennial

Corona Centennial, ranked No. 3 by The Times, received strong games from Sedrick Barefield and Deontae North to defeat No. 2 Redondo, 67-60, on Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei.

With the score tied, 57-57, Barefield made a jump shot with 1:14 left, and the Huskies (19-2) pulled away after that. Barfield finished with 17 points and North had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

“Sedrick made a big shot, and we got a stop and fast-break basket after that,” Coach Josh Giles said. “It was obviously the key, crucial part of the game.”

Ian Fox had 17 points and Leland Green added 14 for Redondo (18-4).

“They wanted it more,” Redondo Coach Reggie Morris Jr. said.

In the first game of the day, Los Alamitos defeated Colony, 57-42. Eyassu Worku had 16 points and Jack Kaub contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds. Derrick Bruce scored 17 for Colony.

Gardena Serra continued its dominating play, defeating Upland, 81-50. Tavrion Dawson made eight of 11 shots and finished with 21 points. It was Serra’s ninth consecutive victory.

Alemany rallied for a 54-52 overtime win against Fairfax. Sophomore Daron Henson made three consecutive three-pointers in the fourth quarter for the Warriors and finished with 16 points. Brandon Boyd also had 16 points. Sage Woodruff had 11 points and Lorne Currie and Pierson Ro added 10 apiece for Fairfax.

“Once the first one went in, it gave me confidence,” Henson said.

Orange Lutheran defeated Foothill, 60-54. Rogers Printup had 17 points and junior football standout Keisean Lucier-South had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Bishop Gorman defeated JSerra, 68-53. Johnnie Vassar had 21 points for JSerra. Chase Jeter led Bishop Gorman with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Noah Robotham had 17.
