On Thursday night, Brentwood was stubborn in sticking with a 2-3 zone defense against Sierra Canyon even though the Trailblazers opened a 13-point lead in the third quarter and seemed on the verge of making the game a blowout.

Brentwood’s patience finally paid off in the fourth quarter. Sierra Canyon went cold, and the Eagles began to rally. Austin Lee made a three-pointer with 1:51 left, and suddenly Brentwood trailed by just a single point.

After Deveral Ramsey missed the front end of a one-and-one, Brentwood had the ball with 13.2 seconds left and a chance to win. Point guard Tra Holder created an open shot for Andrew Gardiner from the baseline with seconds left on the clock but it wouldn’t fall. Sierra Canyon hung on for a 55-54 Alpha League victory.

Sierra Canyon (18-2, 4-0), which set up a Tuesday showdown with Windward for first place, received 16 points apiece from Cody Riley and Ramsey. Riley had five dunks on the night.

Windward stayed unbeaten in league with a 66-61 win over Campbell Hall. Aaron Holiday had 31 points for Campbell Hall. Tim Howell scored 28 points in Viewpoint’s 55-52 road victory over Paraclete.
