Baseball: Brandon Ponticelli throws shutout in 2-0 Alemany victory

Junior Brandon Ponticelli continued his strong early season pitching form, throwing a complete-game shutout in Alemany’s 2-0 road victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in a Mission League opener on Tuesday.

He struck out 12, walked two and allowed two hits. Tommy Wilson struck out eight for Notre Dame. Riley Sullivan had an RBI double for Alemany.

Loyola defeated Chaminade for the first time in three years, 4-2. Kyle Beadles started and Nathan Hadley came in for the save, getting two of the four outs on strikeouts. Quinn Brodey had a double, single and two RBIs. Angelo Armenta hit a home run. Dallas Tessar hit a two-run home run for Chaminade. Nick Kahle had two hits.

Anthony Mayorga became the latest Chatsworth pitcher to throw a complete game in a 13-0 win over Burbank. He allowed three hits. Chatsworth is 8-1-1. Chatsworth will play La Salle in the Babe Herman championship game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Stengel Field.

El Camino Real defeated Arcadia, 7-6. Christian Bloom went four for four. Eric Yang added two hits and three RBIs.

Downey defeated Long Beach Wilson, 1-0. Alan Tungate threw the shutout and had two hits.

Sopohomore Zack Noll (3-0) threw five shutout innings in Great Oak’s 7-0 win over Torrey Pines.

Ben Kaser allowed four hits in Cleveland’s 1-0 win over University. Lito Martinez drove in the only run.

Justin Dehn allowed three hits in Crespi’s 1-0 win over Palos Verdes. Calvin Estrada contributed the game-winning RBI.

Unbeaten Temecula Valley received eight strikeouts from Brandon Koch in a 6-0 win over San Dieguito. He allowed two hits.

In a Channel League opener, Dos Pueblos rallied from a 7-0 deficit to defeat Santa Barbara, 9-7. Luke Coffey had a key RBI in the seventh.

Josh Smith struck out 10 in Etiwanda’s 4-1 win over Birmingham. Freshman Chris Jimenez had two hits and two RBIs.
