Football: Backup QB Tanner Maddox shows he’s ready when needed
There aren’t too many backup quarterbacks who can come in and throw for a school-record passing yards when needed. That’s what senior Tanner Maddox of Corona Santiago pulled off last Friday.
With starter Blake Barnett sidelined because of a concussion, Maddox passed for a school-record 370 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-45 overtime victory over Riverside King.
Barnett is expected back for this week’s showdown Big VIII League game against Corona Centennial, but Maddox proved that he’s ready when called upon in a big way.
