Ex-USC QB Mitch Mustain wins in first Arena League start

Former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain made his first start in the Arena Football League, passing for six touchdowns in the San Jose SaberCats’ 68-54 victory over the Pittsburgh Power on Saturday night at HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Mustain completed 21 of 37 passes for 250 yards and had one pass intercepted.

Mustain, 25, revived his football career after pitching last season in the Chicago White Sox organization.

The Arkansas native also is a the subject of a documentary, “The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain,” which screened recently at a film festival in Arkansas.

Mustain has played in seven games for the SaberCats. He has completed 38 of 69 passes for 486 yards and 10 touchdowns with three interceptions.

The SaberCats are 8-3 and play on the road against the Iowa Barnstormers on Saturday.
