USC football: Teammates praise tailback Javorius Allen

Javorius Allen’s determined effort paid off, and no one was happier than the USC tailback’s teammates.

Allen, a third-year sophomore from Florida, scored his first two career touchdowns in last week’s 38-31 victory over Arizona.

Senior tailback Silas Redd was among those who praised the player nicknamed “Buck.”

“That was Buck Allen’s coming-out party,” Redd said. “I’m so proud of him because he has worked so hard.”

Said linebacker Dion Bailey: “We were just waiting for him to get his turn and he made the most out of it.... It just emphasized the importance of guys being ready because you never know when you’re going to get your shot.”

Allen modestly brushed away compliments, but said he would like to score more touchdowns if called upon.

The Trojans play Notre Dame on Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium.

“I feel like I haven’t done anything,” Allen said, adding, “Since I know what it feels like to get in the end zone, that just makes me hungry to get that feeling again.”
