Clippers’ Reggie Bullock happy to be playing

Clippers rookie Reggie Bullock said he tried to keep his cool and just play during his first professional basketball appearance Wednesday night against the Utah Jazz.

But during the five minutes Bullock played, he didn’t score. He didn’t even take a shot. His stat line said one foul and one turnover.

Of course Bullock had practiced only Monday and Tuesday because he had missed the rest of training camp recovering from an injured right knee.

“I wouldn’t say it was nerves,” Bullock said. “I’ve been at the games and I’ve been watching from the sidelines and I’ve seen some of the things that my teammates were doing, so I just tried to do those things. So, it’s all about me adapting and being able to play with these guys.”

Bullock, selected by the Clippers with the No. 25 pick in the first round out of North Carolina, said having a “great” mentor in Chris Paul has been beneficial.

The next step, Bullock said, is to get in better shape.

“Condition-wise, I don’t feel like I’m far away from it,” Bullock said. “But I think just basketball shape, just getting in the basketball routine again, probably like 90% of me is probably there. I still have more to go.”

Bullock admitted that he did miss an assignment playing in his first exhibition game against the Jazz on Wednesday night.

“I don’t know if I want to talk about it,” Bullock said, smiling.
