Knicks point guard Raymond Felton arrested on weapons charges

New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton was arrested on three counts of criminal possession of a weapon after turning himself in to police early Tuesday morning.

He is expected to be arraigned later Tuesday in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of second- and third-degree criminal possession of a firearm, both felonies, and fourth-degree possession, a misdemeanor, according to a New York police spokesman.

Felton was accompanied by his attorney when he arrived at the 20th Precinct on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, police said. He was arrested at 12:50 a.m., not long after the Knicks’ 110-108 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

NYPD Sgt. John Buthorn said a woman had come to the station earlier with a gun she said belonged to Felton. According to police, the charges involve Felton possessing an unregistered gun.

The nine-year NBA veteran returned for a second stint with New York last season after the departure of Jeremy Lin.

He averaged 13.9 points a game in helping the team make the playoffs last year but has slumped to a career-low 10.4 points a game for this year’s 21-36 Knicks.
