Update: This is the second meeting of the year between these conference rivals; the teams played to a 1-1 tie in Portland on May 11. The Galaxy is coming off a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes last weekend and is undefeated in its last five MLS games (three wins, two draws). Omar Gonzalez, the Galaxy star defender who was on the U.S. national team in the World Cup in Brazil, is back in Los Angeles but will not play in this game. Portland, which most recently lost, 1-0, to Sporting Kansas City, is tied with the Galaxy in the Western Conference standings with 20 points and in sixth place, one spot out of the top five that qualify for the playoffs.
