Cam Newton has been breaking uniform code his whole NFL career
The NFL is intensely protective of its sponsorship deals and therefore extremely nitpicky about players wearing anything that violates the uniform code.
Turns out Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has gotten away with a violation throughout his career, one spotted by a keen-eyed observer at Forbes.com.
The tiny clips that hold Newton’s protective visor in place are imprinted with Under Armour logos, a company that pays the quarterback to endorse its products. Nike is the NFL’s official uniform provider, and Riddell is its helmet company.
Newton isn’t the only NFL player who uses the clips. So do Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor, Browns receiver Josh Gordon, and 49ers safety Eric Reid.
No doubt the league will be flagging these players -- for clipping, naturally.
