UCLA running back Paul Perkins will make himself available for the NFL draft, Perkins tweeted Tuesday.

Perkins, a junior, is third on UCLA’s all-time rushing list, but UCLA has depth at the position. Soso Jamabo, a freshman last season, rushed for 403 yards and four touchdowns, and Nate Starks, a sophomore, rushed for 320 yards and five touchdowns.

“It has been a privilege to have met and played with so many remarkable guys who inspired and shared my passion for the game of football,” Perkins tweeted.

As of last week, Perkins said he had not yet decided on his future. Perkins is not expected to be selected in the first two rounds of the draft, but running backs often declare early to avoid an extra season at a punishing position without getting paid.

Perkins rushed for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. The season before, he rushed for 1,575 yards, leading the Pac-12 Conference, and nine touchdowns.

He is the second UCLA player to declare for the draft since its season ended Saturday, joining defensive lineman Kenny Clark.
