Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden shows off a plethora of pumpkins
The fourth annual Pumpkin Village has opened as part of the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden’s annual Autumn Festival, which runs through Nov. 26.
“The arrival of pumpkins is a sure sign that beautiful, cool weather is upon us after the heat of summer,” said Dave Forehand, vice president of gardens at the arboretum.
This year’s village and displays at the north and south entrances use 65,000 pumpkins, squash and gourds, 15,000 more than last year.
Pumpkins, squash and gourds are all part of the Cucurbita genus, but usually pumpkins are used for carving and some cooking, squash is cooked or eaten raw and gourds are for eye candy.
The Pumpkin Village spans almost an acre at the 66–acre arboretum. The staff thinks it may be the largest pumpkin display in the Southwest.
The Pumpkin Village is included with admission, which costs $15 for adults.
