Baseball: Connor Cannon leads Vista Murrieta to win in Southwestern League opener

Junior Connor Cannon, an Oregon commit, hit and pitched Vista Murrieta to a 10-2 win over Temecula Valley in a Southwestern League opener on Wednesday.

He contributed three hits and four RBI, including a two-run home run. He also threw two shutout innings of relief. Freshman Jake Moberg added three hits for Vista Murrieta (6-2, 1-0).

El Camino Real 6, Arcadia 0: The Conquistadores won the Babe Herman tournament behind Jeremy Polon, who struck out 10.

San Fernando 3, Sylmar 2: It was another huge Valley Mission League win for the Tigers. Albert Robles had two triples.

Camarillo 18, Oak Park 1: Frankie Tostado went four for four with four RBI for Camarillo. Nico Lima added a home run and three RBI.

St. Paul 6, Bishop Amat 1: Jayson Gonzalez had three hits for Bishop Amat.

Los Osos 21, Etiwanda 8: Niko Navarro hit three home runs and finished with six RBI for Los Osos.

North 8, Rancho Verde 5: Andrew Quintero struck out 11. Christian Koss went four for four.

Simi Valley 3, Moorpark 1: Kody McLain came through with dominating relief pitching, striking out three in two shutout innings to help the Pioneers pull off the upset in a Coastal Canyon League opener. Cal Hodgins had two hits.

Newbury Park 4, Oaks Christian 3: Braden Ashmore got the walk-off single in the eighth inning for the Panthers. He finished with three hits. Riley Helland had three hits, including a two-run double, for Oaks Christian.

Thousand Oaks 4, Calabasas 3: Ryan Pemberton’s home run in the top of the ninth inning broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the Lancers to a Marmonte League win. Riley Jones threw shutout relief.

Agoura 4, Westlake 1: Matt Lautz struck out six in a complete game and Ryan Fineman went two for two in a Marmonte League opener. Joey Dawes had two RBI.

Valencia 7, West Ranch 1: The Vikings won their Foothill League opener. Kevin Chandler allowed one run in five innings. Jacob Silva had two doubles. Trace Eldridge hit a home run.

Saugus 5, Golden Valley 0: Chase Wheatcroft threw a no-hitter, striking out five, in the Foothill League opener.

Canyon 3, Hart 0: Daniel Buonauro threw the shutout for the Cowboys.

El Modena 6, Esperanza 3: Brett Conine had three hits and Dominic Campeau added two hits and two RBI to help El Modena wins its Crestview League opener.

El Dorado 6, Anaheim Canyon 5: Skyler McMillan got the win in relief for El Dorado.

Foothill 3, Brea Olinda 1: Sebastian Lopez improved to 4-0 with the North Hills League opening win.

Los Osos 21, Etiwanda 8: Niko Navarro hit three home runs and finished with six RBI for Los Osos.

Gahr 2-2, Long Beach Wilson 0-8: Paul VerSteeg threw six shutout innings in the first game of a doubleheader for Gahr. In the second game, Chris Betts hit two home runs for Wilson.

Granada Hills 4, Burbank 0: Tony LaPorte went three for three and Gerardo Ramirez threw a four-hit shutout, striking out three and walking none.

Crescenta Valley 1, Village Christian 0: UCLA-bound Brian Gadsby threw the shutout to outduel David Barta, a Loyola Marymount commit. Gadsby struck out eight and walked none. He gave up three hits.

Burroughs 6, Malibu 0: Three Burroughs pitchers combined on the shutout. Aidan Anding and Anthony Bocanegra each had two hits.

Sierra Canyon 3, Paraclete 2: The Trailblazers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh in a Gold Coast League game. Seth Stone and Jake Patterson had two hits each. Zack Tavelman improved to 3-0 with a four-hitter. It was the first league loss in three years for Paraclete.

Palisades 3, Taft 2: Leo Bucksbaum broke a 2-2 deadlock with an RBI single for the Dolphins in the sixth. Max Mehlbaum had two hits for Taft.

Brentwood 7, Campbell Hall 2: Zach Lewis had three hits and two RBI for Brentwood.

St. Francis 10, Highland 4: The Golden Knights won the Babe Herman tournament game.

North Hollywood 6, Chavez 3: The Huskies won their East Valley League opener by Ryan Ruiz, who struck out eight. Victor Meza had two hits.

Banning 10, Garfield 2: Justin Yanez struck out six in six innings. Angel Zamora went two for two.
