Beverly Hills home built for author Jackie Collins asks $30 million
The longtime home of the late Jackie Collins, whose capturing of Hollywood glamour and salacious detail made her a bestselling author and household name, has come to market in Beverly Hills for $30 million.
The contemporary-style mansion of nearly 22,000 square feet was custom built for Collins in 1991.
Designed for small- and large-scale entertaining, the home opens in dramatic fashion to a two-story gallery entry staircase topped by light vestibules and skylights. Grand formal areas, a library, a wet bar and a chef’s kitchen with three islands are among features of note.
The master suite, as if taking a page from the author’s works, indulges with lavish his and hers bathrooms, walk-in closets and offices. Glass doors open to a terrace balcony overlooking the grounds.
A 100-foot corridor lined with gallery walls connects to a guest apartment, a gym and a screening room. There are eight bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms and five half baths in all.
Outdoors, the U-shaped design of the home surrounds a wide swimming pool and spa. Various patios, gardens, a motor court and a six-car garage complete the nearly one-acre setting.
Susan Smith and Brett Lawyer of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, hold the listing.
Collins, who died last year at 77, acquired the property in the late 1980s for $3 million.
The London-born author achieved notoriety for best-selling novels such as “The World Is Full of Married Men,” “Hollywood Wives” and “Hollywood Husbands.” Her collective works are said to have sold more than 500 million copies worldwide.
She was the sister of actress Joan Collins.
