A La Cañada Flintridge home built for Oscar-winning actor Kevin Costner is on the market for $5.588 million.

Designed by San Juan Capistrano architect/builder John McInnes, the house was completed in 1989, with Costner and his first wife, Cindy, settling into the home two years later.

The Italian Mediterranean villa has changed hands twice in its history, selling for $2.69 million in 1999 and more recently in 2013 for $4.72 million.

The walled and gated compound includes a 6,754-square-foot main house, 2,400 square feet of loggias and a detached 840-square-foot structure outfitted with a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, a game room and custom aquarium.

Entered through a grand foyer with a sweeping staircase, the two-story home is distinguished by such details as hand-painted frescoes, detailed built-ins, stone pillars and Spanish marble. A library, a screening room, five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms are among the living spaces.

Verandas and curved walls of glass overlook grounds containing mature pine and eucalyptus trees, a sports court and a swimming pool with a spa.

A three-car garage and motor court complete the nearly three-quarter-acre setting.

Kevin Grahn of Partners Trust Real Estate has the listing.
