High-tech living with a view in Mount Olympus
This contemporary in Mount Olympus, designed for work and play, makes the most of its panoramic views from downtown Los Angeles to the ocean.
The 1976 home, redone from the studs and updated with new appliances and amenities, is landscaped with succulents, pear trees, Mexican feather grass and other greenery to create a contemplative setting behind its gates.
“My girlfriend and I were looking for something that had privacy, yet had a view,” says Haralabos Voulgaris, a professional poker player and sports bettor who owns the home. “The house is large, and we added 150 square feet to the living room to make the first floor a little longer. I also wanted a room where I could do my work.”
The media room, where Voulgaris has created a sports viewing system and home theater, allows him to watch nearly 1,000 NBA games a year, with four 42-inch flat screen HD monitors surrounding a 65-inch flat screen monitor, which are included with the house. All are connected to individual DVRs that allow him to follow multiple games at one time.
The home has Cat5 wiring throughout, which provides options for networking appliances, telephone lines and computers. Nearly every room and outdoor area has its own audio and video system.
Floor-to-ceiling sliding-glass pocket doors open the living room, dining room and kitchen to the outdoors, with access to the patio, saltwater pool and spa in the backyard. The stainless-steel kitchen has a center island with bar seating for four.
Behind the kitchen is the media room and a bedroom being used as an office, with a bathroom. Down the hallway is a laundry room with an electronic pet door. A half bath and hall closet complete the first floor.
A floating staircase leads to an upper landing sitting area with built-in bookcases. A guest bedroom with bathroom is at one end of the hall, and the master bedroom suite is at the other.
The master suite includes a bedroom that opens to a rooftop deck and a walk-in closet. The master bath features a walk-in shower with rain shower head, massage jets and a built-in teak bench.
