Los Angeles Film Fest 2013: ‘Coffee Talks’ panels announced

The Los Angeles Film Festival’s Sunday “Coffee Talks” panels on June 16 are scheduled to feature “Iron Man 3” director/co-writer Shane Black and actors Joe Manganiello (“True Blood”) and Virgina Madsen (“Sideways”).

The four “Coffee Talks” will shine a spotlight on directors, actors, composers and screenwriters. Among the other “Coffee Talks” talent announced Tuesday are actor Josh Henderson (“Dallas”), composers Atticus Ross, Brian Tyler and David Sardy, and screenwriters Drew Pearce (“Iron Man 3”) and Karen McCullah (“Legally Blonde.”)

Also, a live festival edition of KCRW’s “The Treatment” will take place June 19 with Film Independent at LACMA curator Elvis Mitchell, who will host a conversation with special guest “Fast & Furious 6” director Justin Lin. The discussion will air on KCRW at a later date.

The festival also will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Film Independent’s Project Involve, which strives to cultivate filmmakers in communities that are underrepresented, with the world premiere June 22 of “Life of a King,” starring Cuba Gooding Jr.

Among the other events announced Tuesday are a series of “Diversity Speaks” panels and a future filmmakers luncheon on June 15 and the unveiling of Indiewire’s Influencers list on June 17.

The Los Angeles Times is a presenting media sponsor of the festival, which takes place June 13-23 at the Regal Cinemas’ L.A. Live Stadium 14 and other locales.
