'Little People, Big World' stars Matt and Amy Roloff separate

The stars of "Little People, Big World" are taking a little time off — from living with each other.

Matt and Amy Roloff, husband and wife for 26 years, have separated, as revealed in a clip from a special due to air March 25 on TLC.

"Though we have weathered many storms together, we recently made the tough decision to engage in a trial separation," they told People in a statement Wednesday.

Matt hasn't gone far, however: He's staying in the farm's guest house and works together with Amy daily on farm matters. He also is still involved with the kids.

"Amy and I are separated," he says in a clip from the March 25 episode. "Last year was long, long and tough. Amy and I had a lot of tensions so right around Thanksgiving I thought I would move over to the bridal house for a little bit and we'll try that."

He says he never felt at home in his own home on the farm, which is just outside of Portland, Ore.

"You can call it a separation if you want, a trial separation, but it's more of just giving each other some space."

Amy says the two of them never quite learned to live with each other, despite the decades and four children between them.

"It's not my choice for him to leave," she says. "I am saddened by it, and it's been 26 years. We don't have a plan as far as how we are going to work this out so it's not going to be easy."

The couple, diagnosed with types of dwarfism, appeared as the heads of the household in the series, which launched in 2006. Appearing with them: children Jeremy and Zach, twins and 23, Molly, 20, and Jacob, 17. Zach, like his mother, has achondroplasia. Matt has diastrophic dysplasia.
