Sarah Hyland of ‘Modern Family’ and boyfriend Matt Prokop split

Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop, her boyfriend of five years, split, putting an end to that particular “Modern Family.”

The comedy star’s rep confirmed the news to The Times on Tuesday but declined to elaborate further. Reports said the actors’ breakup was amicable and that Hyland is “doing fine.”

“It didn’t work out,” a source told Us Weekly, which first reported the split. “She’s young. They decided they would be better off as friends.”

The 23-year-old “Vampire Academy” actress and Prokop, 24, met in 2008 while auditioning for “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” They also costarred in the 2011 TV movie “Geek Charming” and later moved in together with a dog named Barkley Bixby.

It’s unclear when the two called it quits, but the breakup didn’t seem to affect Hyland’s spirits at Monday’s 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, where “Modern Family” picked up several Emmys, including its fifth win for best comedy series. The ABC show is now tied with previous record-holder “Frasier,” which won its fifth comedy-series Emmy in 1998.

Last year, Prokop accompanied Hyland to the awards show, but Hyland flew solo on Monday.

“This sums up the #emmys2014 for me,” she wrote on Instagram, posting a cheerful red-carpet snap of herself in a Christian Siriano ensemble. “Thank you to those who voted for us!!! I can’t believe we won!!!! #emmys #modernfamily”

After the telecast, the actress and her costars hit a handful of parties.

“Big glass of wine and a tall glass of Colombian. @SofiaVergara #Emmys,” Hyland wrote on Twitter, sharing a pic of herself with costar Sofia Vergara.
