Seven films advance in makeup and hairstyling Oscar race

'Grand Budapest Hotel' is one of seven films shortlisted for the makeup and hairstyling Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that seven films remain in competition in the makeup and hairstyling category for the 87th Academy Awards.

Advancing to the shortlist are "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"; "Foxcatcher"; "The Grand Budapest Hotel"; "Guardians of the Galaxy";  "Maleficent"; "Noah"; and "The Theory of Everything."

The members of the academy's makeup artists and hairstyling branch will view 10-minute excerpts from these films on Jan. 10 before voting on the final three films as Oscar nominees.

The Academy Award nominations are to be announced on Jan. 15 at 5:30 a.m. PST at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The Oscars are scheduled for Feb. 22 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland with Neil Patrick Harris hosting the live ABC telecast.
