Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino) developing music comedy for FX

Donald Glover, the comedian who broke out on NBC’s cult comedy “Community,” is tapping into his music roots for his next small screen gig.

Glover, also known to underground hip-hop fans as Childish Gambino, is developing a music-themed show for FX, according to Deadline.

Tentatively titled “Atlanta,” the show would be anchored in the city’s thriving music scene. Glover, who juggles his rap alter-ego with his acting, is well-versed with the Atlanta scene, having grown up in the nearby suburb of Stone Mountain, Ga.

The actor-rapper-comedian will write, executive produce and star in the FX show.

Glover recently announced that he would minimize his role on “Community,” going from series regular to recurring, to make room for his music career and touring schedule (he played Coachella last year). He's slated to appear in only five of 13 episodes of the show’s fifth season.

His major label debut as Childish Gambino, “Camp,” was released in 2011 to critical acclaim; last summer, he issued another well-received mixtape, “Royalty.” A new album is expected in the fall.
