Kurt Cobain’s childhood home is for sale

For only the most devoted Nirvana fan, here comes a chance at the ultimate a collectors piece: the late Kurt Cobain’s childhood home.

Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor, and his sister Kim have recently announced that she is selling the Aberdeen, Wash., home where she raised the future Nirvana front man.

The Guardian has a statement from the family which said: “We’ve decided to sell the home to create a legacy for Kurt, and yes, there are some mixed feelings since we have all loved the home and it carries so many great memories. But our family has moved on from Washington [state], and [we] feel it’s time to let go of the home.”

The family said that they hoped a buyer would turn the home into a museum (it’s steps away from the Kurt Cobain Memorial Park). The property is listed at $500,000, which likely reflects its value as a potential Nirvana memorial.

The house was built in 1923, and O’Connor admits it’s a little run-down. It was last occupied four years ago by a friend of the family.

But the accompanying photographs, especially one with a teenage Cobain playing guitar in his bedroom, are captivating. The sale even comes with a few of Cobain’s childhood effects, including a dining room table, his bedroom shelves and, reportedly, his mattress.
