“Girl Meets World,” the Disney Channel’s sequel to the popular 1993-2000 “TGIF” ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World,” attracted 5.2 million total viewers in its premiere Friday evening on the cable network.

The sitcom, which finds Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) of “Boy Meets World” married and the parents of a tween daughter (Rowan Blanchard), is the No. 1 series launch of 2014 among the major youth demographics.

“Zapped,” an original Disney Channel movie that preceded “Girl Meets World,” delivered an even larger audience, attracting 5.7 million total viewers, making it the No. 1 cable TV telecast of 2014 among kids 2-11, 6-11 and tweens 9-14.
