"Girl Meets World," the
's sequel to the popular 1993-2000 "TGIF"
sitcom "Boy Meets World," attracted 5.2 million total viewers in its premiere Friday evening on the cable network.
The sitcom, which finds Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (
"Zapped," an original Disney Channel movie that preceded "Girl Meets World," delivered an even larger audience, attracting 5.7 million total viewers, making it the No. 1 cable TV telecast of 2014 among kids 2-11, 6-11 and tweens 9-14.
The film starred popular Disney Channel star Zendaya ("Shake It Up"), who has been cast in Lifetime's upcoming bio-pic on Aaliyah, the R&B singer who died in a plane crash in 2001.
