What fear of singing? Jennifer Lawrence does a mean Cher impression on ‘Conan’

Share

Jennifer Lawrence is terrified of singing in front of people, but, in typical Lawrence fashion, she doesn’t seem to have a problem with it when she’s going for a laugh.

The Oscar winner and her “Hunger Games” costars appeared on “Conan” following their Comic-Con International panel in San Diego on Thursday, and the host brought up “The Hanging Tree,” a ballad she sang in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” that skyrocketed to No. 1 on music charts.

“First of all, if I had gone ‘[makes a raspberry noise], Hunger Games!!!’ it would’ve reached No. 1,” the 24-year-old said, making no secret of her widespread popularity. “It wasn’t me. Singing in front of people is my biggest fear in the entire world.”

O’Brien and costars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson then threw her under the bus, insisting that she breaks into song with some frequency and that Cher’s 1998 hit “Believe” is among her favorites.

Lawrence, being the giant goofball that she is and late night being the destination for impressions that it is, proceeded to appropriate the iconic songstress’ throaty voice and belted out the song with Hutcherson. Fear? There’s no room for that among the heroes of Comic-Con.

In another bit, O’Brien got the potty-mouthed actress to say as many swear words as she could in 30 seconds while he fed a swear jar with cash for charity. You can watch that bleep-laden exchange here.

O’Brien (a.k.a. The Flaming C) has been broadcasting from the Spreckels Theatre in San Diego since Wednesday, taking his talk show to the annual confab that typically draws 130,000 visitors each year. Earlier that day, he moderated “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” panel in Hall H.

On Friday, he’ll host the casts of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” He also has slated a top-secret film cast for his special Saturday show.
