‘Scandal’s’ Kerry Washington geeks out over ‘Game of Thrones’

Stars can be fans of their own shows, for sure. But usually they reserve their true geekery for someone else’s show. And that’s true of “Scandal’s” Kerry Washington too.

While the ABC drama she stars in may have its hordes of obsessed viewers, Washington has been obsessing over HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” And for the sweetest of reasons.

Washington stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday and told Jimmy Fallon that she originally started watching the lavish fantasy series because her parents were fans of it. Such big fans, in fact, that they would hang up the phone when the actress tried to call them on Sunday nights.

“I started watching it to make fun of them,” Washington said. “Three hours later, I was in. I’m obsessed.”

She’s become such a big fan of the show that for Mother’s Day two years ago, she cooked her mother a “Game of Thrones”-style feast: giant turkey legs, medieval rice pilaf, grapes, ale, fire-roasted vegetables.

The extremely likable Fallon, meanwhile, managed to elicit a “boo” from his audience when he admitted that he’s only seen the first season of the show.

When it comes to America’s obsession with Westeros, you can only coast so far on charm before you have to buckle down and watch. Look how well Tyrion’s charms worked out for him on the show.

Advice to Fallon: catch up now, or you may have to stow away on a ship bound for Essos.
