Swim and resortwear designer Shay Todd took home the Moss Adams Fashion Innovator Award at Tuesday night’s “All Aboard” annual benefit for emerging designers, organized by Fashion Business Inc. at Union Station. She also showed a selection of her pieces -- including twilight blue, dip-dye sundresses, desert-sunset-print caftans and a burnt-clay-colored, one-piece swimsuit with cutouts and a tassel belt -- that brought to mind faraway lands.

The iconic Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress turns 40 next year (Who knew? We swear it doesn’t look a day over 20), and fashion industry trade paper WWD reports that the label will mark the occasion with a touring “Journey of the Dress” exhibition that will kick off in Los Angeles. “The exhibit will include vintage and contemporary wrap-dress designs and portraits of the designer by Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, Francesco Clemente, Helmut Newton and Annie Leibovitz, among others,” WWD said. The exhibition is scheduled to open Jan. 11 and run through March at the former May Co. building at the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax. [WWD]

The year-old Sisters of Los Angeles brand is taking its SoCal canyon- and freeway-themed wares to the streets -- of the Grove shopping center. The SoLA pop cart will “pop up” on Oct. 21* and is scheduled to “pop down” on Jan. 21.

Boat-shoe brand Sperry Top-Sider is stepping into the apparel business in a big way, according to WWD, which reports that the 78-year-old brand is set to reveal “a men’s and women’s lifestyle collection” to retailers in New York City on Thursday. WWD said the styling of the brand will “center around nautical references” and include performance pieces geared toward the ocean and sailing. [WWD]

Just when you thought there weren’t any exceedingly random “holidays” left to celebrate (need we mention: Talk Like a Pirate Day and National Penguin Awareness Day?), you find out National No Beard Day is right around the corner -- Friday, in fact. We’ve helpfully compiled some suggestions to help you boycott the beard without unbuckling that chinstrap. [All the Rage]
