Madonna and Kim Kardashian West — each in black ensembles and surrounded by an entourage that included Kardashian West’s mom, Kris Jenner, and Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary — joined forces on Tuesday night at YouTube Space in Los Angeles to tape a conversation promoting their respective beauty lines, MDNA Skin and KKW Beauty.

A small handful of influencers and journalists attended the intimate Q&A, which was moderated by Kandee Johnson of the Kardashian West-executive-produced reality series “Glam Masters” on Lifetime.

Ironically, the 50 guests were instructed to put their phones away during the 30-minute conversation in which Kardashian West discussed her fitness routine. “Sometimes I get up at, like, 5 [a.m.] to work out,” she said, explaining that she goes to the gym at her mom’s house.

“That’s insane,” Madonna responded, before suddenly realizing why the late-night Oscars party she had hosted with Oseary was a rarity for the reality star. “That’s why 3 o’clock in the morning is late for you?” she asked.

“That’s why that was crazy for me,” Kardashian West responded.

“Don’t tell me you worked out that day?” Madonna asked.

“I did,” she said. “[My sister] Kourtney stayed out until almost 6 and I’m just like, ‘... I have to take all the kids to school, while she’s partying it up.’” (Apparently, Kardashian West, who has a newborn, went to the gym after her carpool run.)

This was one of many candid moments during the night, which appeared to be in celebration of MDNA Skin’s newest product, the Reinvention Cream. The four-in-one product, which retails for $75, acts as a lotion, serum, cream and mask. Its formula features cell extracts from three African resurrection plants.

“We’ve been able to extract the stem cells from this plant and put them in this all-in-one cream,” Madonna, 59, said, adding that the product is also infused with M.T. Parca Thermal Water from Montecatini Terme, Italy, a spa destination known for its mineral-rich thermal spring waters. “I went there and I experienced them,” she explained. “I said, ‘OK, how can we make it so that nobody else can have these waters?’”

Madonna wanted to incorporate her newfound fountain of youth into hydrating beauty products, and MDNA Skin was conceived in 2014. Co-founded by the Grammy-winning singer and MTG, a Japanese beauty and wellness technology company, the luxury skin-care line only recently made its way to the U.S. in 2017, where it’s available at Barneys New York and www.mdnaskin.us.

The singer said she feels a personal connection to her products since Montecatini Terme is close to where her father’s family is from. “I have DNA in my MDNA,” she said, noting that a portion of the proceeds from her skin-care line’s latest product benefits her nonprofit organization, Raising Malawi. (The organization will use the money to pay for a year of school for Malawian children.)

“[Four] of my children are Malawian, and I’ve been busy doing a lot of philanthropic work there,” said Madonna, who’s the mother of six, four of whom were adopted.

Kardashian West, 37, shared that her beauty inspirations are her mother and grandmother. Madonna said that hers have long been Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth. “Obviously, I said all of their names in my song ‘Vogue,’” she said, “but they were the personification of beauty to me.”

Next for Kardashian West is a new fragrance as well as a collaboration with her longtime makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic. Although she was mum on the details, she did divulge that it’s “a really cute collection.”

Asked about what products they liked most from their beauty lines, Madonna replied that her favorite MDNA Skin products include the serum, rose mist spray and eye masks (she puts the masks in her freezer and regularly uses them because she sleeps face-down into her pillow).

And Kardashian West said her key KKW Beauty products include her contour kit, powder and creams.

Throughout the night, the two women displayed their love for beauty products. They took turns spritzing themselves with MDNA Skin’s rose mist, prompting Kardashian West to ask, “Am I dewy and glowy?” Naturally, she was.
