Belly up, indeed: Tender Greens’ upcoming whole animal roasts and beer garden schedule

Share

This summer is the third year that the Hollywood outpost of the fast-and-fresh salad chain Tender Greens will host a monthly beer garden and whole animal roast on the remodeled patio just off Sunset Boulevard.

The brainchild of executive chef -- and avid home brewer -- Eric Hulme, the series kicked off Sunday with Anaheim’s Noble Ale Works and a 90-pound Berkshire pig from local ReRide Ranch.

The whole, hibachi-roasted pig and the unlimited local brews were the main draw, but the menu was filled out with everything from local charcuterie to the house-picked and fresh veggies that you’d expect from Tender Greens’ kitchen, as well as two giant whole-roasted salmons that joined the roast pig during the main course.

Matched with Noble’s light and fruit-forward Pistol Whip’d Pils and their resinous, citrusy Big Whig IPA, the meal was languorous and relaxed as Hulme made the rounds to chat about the idea behind the event and even share some of his home brew.

Hulme is passionate about craft beer, and he’s lined up a slate of great local breweries for the ongoing series that takes place on the fourth Sunday of each month this summer:

- June – Goat / Cismontane Brewing Co.

- July – Lamb / El Segundo Brewering Co.

- August – Boar / Bootleggers Brewery

- September – Game Birds (wild turkey, goose) / Eagle Rock Brewery

- October – Oktoberfest theme with pig / Smog City Brewing Co.

The dinners are $45 per person and feature unlimited pours of the featured brews and enough food that you’ll wish you’d brought your hollow leg. Seating is limited to about 50 diners, and reservations go quickly. Email Angie at Tender Greens to reserve a spot.
